Examination of Visual Functionality

During the  examination of visual functionality all visual functions are tested and the results are evaluated. We determine to what extent the existing vision is used and whether there are possibilities of optimization.

In contrast to the ophthalmological examination, which is more focused on the extent of functional deficits, this examination refers to the areas that are functional. Particular attention is paid to how and in what areas the existing visual functions can be triggered. We apply special examination techniques, which can be adapted to individual needs and situation.

The results are related to the needs of those affected and discussed with them. Based on the findings an appropriate treatment plan is developed. This includes all the recommended aids, possibilities of adaption and therapies.

The Examination of visual functionality includes several components:

1. Assessment of existing visual function:

  • Fixation and nystagmus
  • visual acuity for distance and near
  • long distance and short distance visual function
  • field of view
  • Spatial vision and eye position
  • contrast sensitivity and colour vision
  • adaption to different lighting conditions
  • eye movement
  • need and acceptance of optical magnification

2. Monitoring the use of the existing visual functions:

  • is the existing visual function already used for certain activities
  • are there opportunities for more effective use
  • can activities be carried out better through the use of aids
  • is it possible to maximize the use of the existing visual function by a special vision training

3. Adaptation of the activity area:

  • light setting (light colour, intensity and direction)
  • Position in space
  • Working distance
  • ergonomic changes

If necessary, it is possible to have an ophthalmological examination, in conjunction with other benefits. It
’s important for us to work together with your ophtalmologist!

This offer is available in the vision support centres in Chemnitz, Dresden, Berlin and Königs Wusterhausen.
