Braille

"Learning to read with the hands" is an important issue in learning Braille, named after its inventor, Louis Braille.
The most popular form of Braille is the one that consists of six points. Apart from that, there is also the so-called computer-Braille, which uses an 8-point system. The work on the PC requires this form of Braille, to ensure a one-to-one representation of the character sets used in the computer.

What does the training offer?

The goal of Braille instruction is, firstly, to restore the reading and writing skills of the clients, and thus to reintegrate them into society.
Secondly, the improvement of existing knowledge of Braille is central to the demands of the labour market. The course takes into account the individual needs and requirements of the participant.
For people who became blind later in their lives the knowledge of Braille is utterly important in order to maintain their written communication skills, remain employment and to complete successfully their vocational rehabilitation.

Our offer includes:

  • the so-called six-point Braille
  • Shorthand
  • Computer-Braille, the so-called 8-point Braille on demand
  • Training to increase reading speed

Depending on the needs of participants they are taught in groups or one to one.

This offer is available in vision support centres in Chemnitz, Dresden, Berlin and Königs Wusterhausen.
